For FY2027, Minnesota's Conservation Partners Legacy Grant Program restricts $13.797 million in funding to the seven-county metro area and cities with populations of 50,000 or more.

$13.797 MILLION

in FY2027 CPL funding is geographically restricted.

That leaves conservation organizations and habitat projects across much of Greater Minnesota unable to compete for these funds.

Restore Statewide CPL Funding — Don’t Leave Greater Minnesota Behind

Minnesota’s Conservation Partners Legacy (CPL) Grant Program has helped local conservation organizations turn Legacy dollars into real habitat improvements across our state.

For FY2027, that changed.

The Legislature restricted CPL funding to the seven-county metropolitan area and cities with populations of 50,000 or more — leaving conservation organizations and habitat projects across much of Greater Minnesota unable to compete for these funds.

We believe that is unfair to rural Minnesota.

Petition Statement

We support habitat investments in the metro. But funding conservation in one part of Minnesota should not require excluding another.

Minnesotans statewide support the Outdoor Heritage Fund. Wildlife habitat, public lands and conservation needs exist statewide. Local organizations like the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association and our chapters have a long history of putting conservation dollars, matching funds and volunteer effort to work where they can make a difference.

We're asking the Minnesota Legislature to restore statewide eligibility to the Conservation Partners Legacy Grant Program.
